The Seventh House: where love, marriage, and destiny intertwine

The Seventh House signifies marriage and describes the kind of person the native will marry. It also governs open enemies, legal disputes, public controversies, partnerships, and those with whom the native regularly does business. In the human body, it rules the loins and kidneys. This house is angular and feminine. The Greeks called it Katadysis, meaning “setting,” because it marks the western part of the chart where the Sun and planets set and disappear from view.

Planets in the Seventh House

Saturn

When Saturn is here, the native’s life is often in danger and plagued by chronic illnesses. There may be frequent injuries or falls, sorrow in marriage, and a likelihood of separation from the spouse. Marital life will be difficult and burdensome. Saturn here may also bring diseases of the private parts, fistulas, or hemorrhoids, along with legal troubles and conflicts with known enemies.

Jupiter

Jupiter in this house brings triumph over enemies, an honorable and joyful marriage, and often wealth through marriage. The spouse is virtuous and wise—a true treasure. The native also enjoys peace and prosperity in later life.

Mars

Mars here brings arguments, disputes, and legal battles. The native may face physical danger, such as being stabbed or violently attacked. Friends may turn into bitter enemies. The native is drawn to foolish pleasures and indulgent women, wasting money and health on them. Marriage will bring strife, possibly leading to imprisonment or emotional torment. Without help from Jupiter or Venus, life may be short and troubled.

Sun

The Sun indicates legal challenges, often involving those in power. In youth, the native may suffer losses due to immoral relationships, but in old age, he may earn honor and respect. A noble and virtuous wife is possible, though only after trials.

Venus

This position brings multiple marriages or romantic involvements. The native is drawn to women and may benefit from marriage. The spouse is likely attractive and pleasant, and the native avoids major conflicts. Business dealings and contracts will be profitable. However, if Venus is poorly placed, these good things may be weakened.

Mercury

Mercury causes disputes, especially with powerful or influential women. If joined with Saturn or Mars, it brings many public enemies who may falsely accuse the native, leading to legal trouble or exile. The spouse may face difficulties. The native is prone to vice and dishonest behavior.

Moon

The Moon here brings sorrow, especially in youth or while traveling abroad. If afflicted by malefic planets, the native may face a violent death. If well aspected by Jupiter or Venus, however, he may marry more than once, and his wives will be wealthy and beautiful. In later life, he will be honored. But if the Moon is afflicted, marriage is unlikely, and the native may fall into scandalous behavior and regret.

North Node

This placement brings few enemies and many benefits through women. The native delights in female company and may marry a virtuous, prudent, and wealthy wife.

South Node

The South Node brings many enemies and constant slander and disgrace. Marriage will be unhappy—filled with arguments, jealousy, and possible separation. It may also indicate the death of the spouse.

Part of Fortune

When well placed, this brings success in marriage, partnerships, contracts, and dealings with women. The native will triumph over enemies. But if badly afflicted, the opposite may occur—trouble in love, legal defeats, and strife in dealings.

A Word of Caution

Anyone who has Saturn, Mars, or the South Node poorly placed in the Seventh House should not marry hastily. Such configurations often lead to disastrous unions. Compare both partners’ charts for harmony before entering marriage. Many families, fortunes, and even kingdoms have been ruined by ill-fated marriages.

Ruler of other houses in the seventh house

Ruler of the First House in the Seventh House

When the ruler of the Ascendant is placed in the Seventh House, it makes the native prone to quarrels and disputes. He is often overly submissive to women and may find himself entangled in conflicts and troubles because of them.

Ruler of the Second House in the Seventh House

If the ruler of the second is in the Seventh House, the native will experience heavy expenses due to wars, lawsuits, and disputes. Losses may also come through women—especially through the wife—and from business partners or those with whom he associates. There is also danger from theft and robbery.

Ruler of the Third House in the Seventh House

When the ruler of the third is placed in the Seventh House, the native will travel frequently, often driven by disputes, disagreements, or troubles with enemies, court matters, or marriage. These travels may also arise from the wrongdoing of the wife, brothers, or other relatives.

Ruler of the Fourth House in the Seventh House

If the ruler of the fourth is found in the Seventh House, the native may benefit through his wife or wives, and from women generally. It also suggests public business or official responsibilities may come his way—possibly through lawsuits, warfare, or other disputes. However, such matters are best approached with caution.

Ruler of the Fifth House in the Seventh House

If the ruler of the fifth is in the Seventh House, the native may suffer from the envy and opposition of his own children. They may strongly side with their mother against him, causing the native grief, trouble, and financial loss.

Ruler of the Sixth House in the Seventh House

When the ruler of the sixth is in the Seventh House, it suggests the native may experience danger and disease through women. The wife may be of weak constitution or poor health. It also indicates frequent arguments and disturbances in marriage.

Ruler of the Seventh House in the Seventh House

If the ruler of the Seventh is well dignified in its own house, the native will marry a noble and reputable woman. But if it is weak or afflicted, the native will face sorrow, tension, and arguments with his wife. There may also be scandals or disputes involving immoral women.

Ruler of the Eighth House in the Seventh House

This placement indicates that the native may marry a wealthy spouse from a foreign country. However, it also warns of the early death of the spouse, and suggests the native may spend his final years in a distant land.

Ruler of the Ninth House in the Seventh House

When the ruler of the ninth is placed in the Seventh House, it shows the wife will be devout, well-mannered, and obedient. Yet, the native will experience many disputes and challenges with people in the places to which he travels.

Ruler of the Tenth House in the Seventh House

With the ruler of the tenth in the Seventh House, the native may gain great honor through significant deeds or achievements, particularly in public affairs. It also indicates a wealthy and noble wife, through whom the native gains status and esteem.

Ruler of the Eleventh House in the Seventh House

When this ruler is in the Seventh House, the native will gain friendships, wealth, and affection through his wife or wives. However, he may experience poverty or hardship in his early years, followed by increasing wealth in his later life.

Ruler of the Twelfth House in the Seventh House

If the ruler of the twelfth is found in the Seventh House, the native will suffer many misfortunes through women. His wife may become his enemy, and he may endure deceit, troubles, and losses because of her. The final years of his life may be filled with sorrow and difficulty.
